Chucklefish, an indie games studio, but most of you may know them as the publishers of Stardew Valley, has given us the most information about their latest project. As some of you may already know, the company has been working on a magic school game, aptly named Spellbound. But beyond the name and the fact that it has something to do with a magic school, we didn’t know anything about it.
New screenshots of the game have been provided by VG24/7 as seen below. The game looks like the predecessor game, Stardew Valley. It does have a very classic RPG look to it so far. Chucklefish founder, Finn Brice, mentioned that, like Stardew Valley, Spellbound will also focus on NPC relationships as well.
The concept is very exciting and has a Harry Potter-esque feeling to it. Part of the excitement is finding out how the developers put their own twist on their idea of a magic school. Brice said:
“The game revolves around your path through school, the relationships you build, and your mastery of the several schools of magic at your disposal,”
Players can also hone their skills in a variety of different schools of magic or go on an adventure. It sounds like Spellbound has quite a bit of player freedom and choice. So you’re not just stuck grinding one aspect of the game if you don’t want to.
Also, if you were a fan of the relationship developments in Stardew Valley, this is one of the aspects that will be carried forward in Spellbound. Except for this time, NPCs are said to have more personality so it has become possible for you to get dumped. Hey, it’s just going to a real school!
The combat system has been compared to retro-action in some of the old Zelda games. Here’s where you will be able to show off the skills you honed in class. Cast spells or use swords! The whole D&D deal. How cool is that!
So far, the game is still in development with no release date set. However, we do know that it will be coming to PC first and possibly to consoles at a later date.
