Tennessee Convenience Store Owner Arrested for Illegal Gambling Operation
In a recent crackdown on illegal gambling, a Tennessee convenience store owner was arrested on Friday after a police raid revealed unauthorized gambling activities at his establishment. Nimit Patel, 40, was charged with multiple offenses including gambling promotion, aggravated gambling promotion, possession of a gambling device or record, and resisting or obstructing a legal writ or process. Patel was taken into custody by the West Tennessee Drug Task Force and booked at the Crockett County jail. His case has been handed over to local prosecutors for further action.
Details of the Raid
The operation, identified as “The Country Store” also known as “E & T Gas” in Gadsden, Tennessee, was under surveillance after police received a tip-off about potential illegal activities. Undercover officers gathered sufficient evidence, leading to the issuance of a search warrant by a local judge. During the raid, officers confiscated $4,208 in cash, two gambling machines, ledgers, and payout slips. Police allege that Patel was paying game winners in merchandise and then exchanging the winning tickets for cash through a third person.
Car Stolen from Casino Lot
In a separate incident, a Nissan Altima sedan was stolen from Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington on Friday afternoon. State troopers arrested Breana Brooks, 28, from Dover, for the theft of the motor vehicle. According to a statement from Delaware State Police, Brooks allegedly stole the car keys from a woman’s jacket pocket inside the casino. The victim had left her jacket near a slot machine, and Brooks used the keys to locate and steal the Nissan from the parking lot.
Arrest and Charges
Police were able to identify Brooks as the suspect after reviewing casino security footage. She was spotted in the stolen car on Saturday before being apprehended by Dover Police Department officers. Brooks was booked at Delaware’s Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution with bail set at $2,000. Police have not disclosed the motive behind the theft.
