PUBG faces backlash earlier this morning when they tried to thank their 400 million players by offering a Steam sale. The tweet that was posted earlier today received overall negative responses from its fans. Having been in a tussle lately with Fortnite over the lawsuit, the whole ordeal feels like a bad PR move on PUBG’s side, further tarnishing their image.
Thank you to our more than 400 million players worldwide across PC, Xbox, and Mobile. In honor of this milestone, PUBG on Steam is now on sale at a discount for the first time ever.

The PUBG backlash
Accompanying their celebratory tweet, they announced that the game is going on sales on Steam, for the first time ever. This inadvertently an odd way to thank existing player. What could they do, buy a second copy of the game?
haha that was funny, the 400 million players don’t need the game to be cheaper if they already own it. Make game crates cheaper or something?

Players are requesting, instead, for a cheaper deal on crate keys since a discount on new copies doesn’t benefit in any way whatsoever. Plus, the ongoing problem with their servers being unoptimized doesn’t ring well amongst the community either.

As for the company itself, they’ve been in a multitude of bad PR spot recently. With players on Reddit accusing them of assets flipping and coming off as petty in the whole lawsuit vs Epic games, they can’t seem to catch a break.
The internet is hard to maneuver sometimes. Once you’re in the bad light, it’s a rather big hole to climb out of. Not to mention the huge competition they have ahead with games like Battlefield V and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 jumping on the Battle Royale bandwagon. PUBG really needs to step up their game or they risk losing their player base when the time comes. Do you think they’re the victim of bad PR here or they deserve the backlash they’re receiving?
