If you’re a fan of XCOM, the highly rated turn-based strategy game, then you might just enjoy this one. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified breaks away from the top-down view of the classic XCOM and throws you, instead, into the first-person-shooter mode. For the next 48 hours, you can get The Bureau: XCOM Declassified free in the Humble Store.
What is The Bureau: XCOM Declassified?
Set in the 1960s during the Cold War, a series of mysterious attacks from enemies far worse than communism was terrorizing earth. A top-secret government unit, The Bureau, was called upon to investigate these attacks. You play as Agent Carter, the leader of your unit. Dressed in 60s swagger with a fedora to top it off, call the shots and lead your squad to protect humanity from otherworldly enemies.
- The first-person-shooter view, breaking away from the classic top-down XCOM view
- Command your squad and call the shots
- Beautiful cinematic scenes with a decent storyline
- Want to just run to aliens and punch them? Yep, you can!
Mixed (3, 585) – Steam
Despite its mixed rating from Steam, the game is still pretty decent and offers a great amount of fun. Due to the fact that it breaks away from the classic XCOM, it pretty much got picked apart by the loyal fan base. I personally am a big fan of XCOM and I have to admit the combat of The Bureau threw me off a little. However, it’s not fair to say that the game is bad, I still had a good time completing it. Plus, it’s free anyway so why not pick it up and give it a try? Side note: if your frame rate feels sluggish, turn off the grain filter and turn off PhysX if your game crashes frequently.
