Last month Epic Games announced that they will be providing $100,000,000 to fund the prize pools for the competitive Fortnite scene and today, they’re announcing the start of Fortnite World Cup! In celebration of their massive growth of 125 million players in less than a year, they’re excited to bring more to the community and get Fortnite itself integrated with competitive play.
How the Fortnite World Cup works
Epic Games will be supporting major events, online events, and even community organized ones. These events will work as qualifiers and they’ll be happening all over the world. The Fortnite World Cup Qualifiers will start this year, 2018, in Fall. So you still have a month or two to practice wall building. Since the qualifiers will happen in fall, it most likely will start sometime between August to October.

Now, if you think that one winner will be taking home the whole million, don’t worry – everyone will get a piece of the pie! Winners of all these events at different levels will get a chance to win this prize. In terms of the format, the Fortnite World Cup will focus on Solos and Duos. Though they did mention there will be squad-up opportunities so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Epic Games specifically emphasize in their video that they won’t be allowing selling of teams and franchises. The rules, player of conducts and schedule as well as sign-ups will be released later in Fall 2018. Check out the video for yourself above.
