CD Projekt Red is partnering up with a small studio known as Digital Scapes. The plan is for them to work together on the upcoming futuristic game — Cyberpunk 2077. The announcement was made on Digital Scapes Studios Ltd LinkedIn page. They also mentioned that they will “create and optimize technological solutions in the development of Cyberpunk 2077.”
The futuristic RPG’s gameplay was shown recently during E3 2018. We were also given a taste of what is to come in the gameplay reveal. During the release announcement, CD Projekt Red said that there was no intention for the game to ship with multiplayer on release. Hence, it comes as a bit of surprise that there might be one now.
Why we think Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer COULD happen
Here’s where Digital Scapes Studios will come in. The Vancouver-based company was brought on with no specific mention of what they will be working on for Cyberpunk 2077. Their latest work was with Techland on Dying Light’s PvP mode. Similar to Dying Light, Techland can focus on the single-player aspect while Digital Scapes can work on the multiplayer. Cyberpunk 2077 might be heading in the same direction as CD Projekt Red’s Patrick Mills did admit that multiplayer was “in R&D”.
Though it should be taken with a pinch of salt that Digital Scapes might be chosen because of their other specialities in the industry. It’s worth mentioning that the company also specializes in cloud computing, asset production, development tool creation and more. Despite all the statements above, we’re hoping that Cyberpunk 2077 will get a multiplayer aspect of the game as a result of this strategic cooperation.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a narrative-driven, role-playing game set in a metropolis called Night City. People are speculating that the game might come out next year. No official release date has been announced for the game however. You can have a look at what we know so far about Cyberpunk 2077 here.
