“Hey everyone! I can finally say it! HAPPY BATTLEBORN FREE TRIAL DAY! Yes, the trial is free indefinitely. There is no expiration!”
2K and Gearbox Software announced just earlier today that Battleborn is going to be Free to Play. The hero shooter MOBA styled game is going on what the developer would call “Free Trial” with indefinite end date. The game is now free to download and play on Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The PS4 version is only available in America for now but will be made free too for Europe and Japan on the 13th of June.
The open-ended Free Trial will give players full access to all maps and a total of 30 champions that rotates in a group of six every week. There will be no level caps or time limits whatsoever and all progress you’ve made will be permanent to your account. As for the Story Mode Operations, players still have to unlock it individually via the Marketplace by using either in-game credits or Platinum premium currency.
Were you one of the early adopters who purchased Battleborn? If the answer is yes, that makes you a “Founder” and that means Legendary Gear, 1000 Platinkum, 50,000 Credits, loot packs, a “Founder’s Crown” you can wear to show your flair and other bonuses. For more details about the Founder bonus you can check it out here.

Expecting the influx of new players, the game is introducing a new matchmaking system called Novice Queue where new players will be grouped and matched up against each other to avoid getting horribly pummelled by veterans. Upon reaching Command Rank 20, you will be removed from the novice group and placed into regular matchmaking. Training modes have been implemented to help new players get acquainted with all the 30 champion.
If you wish to support the title, there are several in-game items purchasable such as permanently unlocking the heroes, skins and taunts, gear packs , boosters and some other things. Player can either use the in-game credit or purchase platinum currency to buy these items available on the in-game marketplace. The full game is still available for purchase and buying the full game will grant player 25 base characters permanently unlocked, eight story mode missions, the prologue and permanent access to private matches.
